Issue: The countdown to the Man of Steel's return to the big screen has long begun, as have threads on the movie's MySpace page discussing the premiere and debating the worst Superman villain. "Superman Returns" opens Tuesday night with special showings at area theaters and regular screenings beginning Wednesday. DFO: Superman was OK when I was a kid. But my favorite Super Heroes were Wonder Woman (I was smitten) and the "Fantastic Four," particularly The Hulk. Mebbe that's why I spent so many years destroying joints by lifting weights as a young middle-ager. Question: Who is your favorite superhero? Why? .
Botswana: By God, He Does Speak!
At long last somebody got Vice-President Ian Khama talking. While we can neither vouch for the veracity of the mid-week newspaper's speculative stories and the VP's subsequent denials, we nevertheless are gratified that the president-in-waiting has finally commented publicly on some aspects of his preordained administration. In a purported interview with the state newspaper, Khama reportedly denied The Botswana Gazette speculation that he is to replace the permanent secretary to the president (PSP) with an army officer. .
Breast cancer
Raloxifene (Evista) works as well as tamoxifen (Nolvadex) in reducing the risk of invasive breast cancer in women with BRCA gene mutations, indicates an important study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).Raloxifene may pose less risk for blood clots than tamoxifen, suggests the JAMA study. However, a New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) study notes that raloxifene still produces a small increase in the risk for blood clots and stroke. These drugs may not be safe for women with pre-existing heart problems. In any case, only women at high risk for inherited types of breast cancer should consider taking these drugs for prevention. Trastuzumab Trastuzumab (Herceptin) has emerged as an important treatment for women with HER2-positive breast cancer, a particularly aggressive type of cancer.
Pfizer, Inc. Q4 2007 Earnings Call Transcript
We did this with solid product performance across a broad and diverse portfolio, cost reductions and the benefits of foreign exchange. By the end of last year, we had in place our new leadership team, and I am particularly pleased with the group that we have assembled. It has in my view a good balance between leaders with strong and extensive experience in our industry, and people from other industries who bring fresh ideas and perspectives. Each member of our team fully appreciates what we need to do and is fully aligned behind our plans to achieve success. Before turning it over to Frank, I'd like to briefly highlight how we're making progress against our priorities and outline the next phase of our plan which we'll cover in much more detail at our March 5th analyst meeting.
Foreign Policy
The Today co-anchor this morning suggested an MSM double-standard on the Dem and GOP races and acknowledged the success of the surge. Matt's guest during the first half-hour was Tim Russert, impressively fresh despite red-eyeing to NYC after moderating last night's Nevada debate. Lauer, after playing clips of the candidates' take on Iraq, suggested that the war is no longer the winning issue the Dems once thought it was. MATT LAUER: How much of a tightrope are they walking with the apparent success of the surge over the last couple months, how difficult is it for these Democratic candidates to score points on Iraq right now? Time to stop insulting Iran
The important point here is that his comments sought removal of the Zionist regime in Israel - a position shared by many Israelis and a wide international community - not the end of Israel. What you need to do with someone like Ahmadinejad is talk and negotiate, not insult and provoke, yet the US only continues to heap pressure on its allies to threaten him. George Bush basks in his self-appointed role as king of the world, and is driven by the NeoCon notion of New American Centuryism: the philosophy that promotes US global leadership. Has Britain become more savvy? Foreign secretary David Miliband has offered a glimmer of hope with his circumspect remarks about Iraq, and reflection that while there are military victories "there never is a military solution". But will he remember this when George Bush starts bending his ear over Iran ? .
