Mormon pioneer Gordon Hinckley dead at 97

Hinckley had "been in failing health for some time and his passing is due to age," said church spokesman Bruce Olsen. "He was speaking in public as late as two to three weeks ago and had a full schedule in his office as late as last week."

Hinckley became president of the Salt Lake City-based church in 1995, at age 84, and had been a member of its top leadership since the 1960s. Mormon church presidents serve for life.

The church has about 13 million members worldwide and has experienced five percent annual growth in recent years. Watch Hinckley

He died about 7 p.m. Sunday (9 p.m. ET) with his family by his side, church officials said.

"His life was a true testament of service, and he had an abiding love for others," said U.S. Sen.

Kidd's Agent Asks for a Trade?

There are scenarios being closely looked at," said one person claiming knowledge of management's thinking. "They are complicated - really complicated - but they might be done." Team president Rod Thorn and assistant Kiki Vandeweghe have been in touch with every team in the past two weeks. Several persons - some close to the team, others with opposing organizations - insist that all trade scenarios are being looked at closer than ever. For a while, the thought was that tweaking the current roster might help. Now the feeling is moving beyond tweaking - and not for a quick fix for a team now 18-25 after five opening losses on the current road trip. "With Rod there, what's going on with that team can't continue," one opposing executive said. "Like with most teams, his hands are fairly tied. But he'll try to get something done by the deadline or maybe [do] something major in the summer." .

Dear Panhinda

You are comparing apples to Oranges. Canada is a first world country- Sri Lanka is third world. Canda has cold weather (good for cycling)...Sri Lanaka is too hot and humid. Canada has good roads - we have great big pot holes. Canada have Cycling lanes - we have VIP lanes( get off the road quick!!) . Canada has civilised , sane drivers ... we have nut cases with few grey cells( these include CEOs and MDs of big companies).

In Canada if you cycle ( good exercise), you live longer. In Sri Lanka ,cycling is a good way to shorten your life span. Then there is the terrorist threat.... not to mention the occassional claymore mine and frequent tropical rainstorms.

Canadian roads are empty- roads here are brimming with people, Pigs( four legged variety) dogs, cows, buffalos and an occassional elephant .....

Councilman MikeK Recalls Knievel Action Figure

Top: Young MikeK playing with Evel Knievel action figure; bottom: MikeK receives inspiration from his childhood friends before leaving for a Coeur d'Alene City Council meeting.

I had a classic Evel Knievel motorcycle riding action figure when I was a kid. The stunts my brothers and I would stage for that motorcycle toy were legendary (riding out a second story window, chasing the dog around the house without getting chewed to ribbons, you name it). RIP Evel. I wonder what happened to Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man who played the role of Evel's arch-nemesis in the boyhood action figure wars?/Councilman MikeK.

Question: What was your favorite action figure/doll when you were little?

Is Barack Obama the next JFK?

From the early days in Iowa there has been only one way in which Hillary Clinton's campaign could be stopped. She had the machine, she had the support of women - though not all women like her - and she had the money too. She also had Bill Clinton, the Big Bertha of her campaign, able to lob huge shells over her head and demolish any opposition.

However, she hoped not to have to fire the big gun; he was intended to be a threat held in reserve, rather than exposed to action. Against these armaments there was one possibility - that Barack Obama would seize the role of the young hero and that he would be seen by American voters as their young champion.

We do not yet know whether Senator Obama will be able to carry his challenge through to actual nomination, despite his impressive victory in South Carolina.
