Parents, learn useful tips for evaluating online colleges, and ...

Regardless of what some websites or online colleges ask you to believe, accreditation is very important because it ensures that an institution meets or exceeds an established set of educational standards. As a result, courses from an accredited online college are most likely to be transferable to other colleges and universities, and degrees from an accredited college are far more likely to be valued by both your current employer and prospective employers considering you for a position. Beware of accreditation claims. Many questionable "accrediting agencies" exist. Some are outright frauds, offering "accreditation" to any institution willing to pay a fee. In fact, operators of some well known degree mills have also run these so-called accrediting agencies. State licensure, by the way, generally means little more than a minimal investment in assets and/or registration as a business entity.

Free speech zones. Taser guns. Hidden cameras. Data mining. A new security curriculum. Private security contractors… Welcome to the new homeland security campus

From Harvard to UCLA, the ivory tower is fast becoming the latest watchtower in Fortress America. The terror warriors, having turned their attention to "violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism" — as it was recently dubbed in a House of Representatives bill of the same name — have set out to reconquer that traditional hotbed of radicalization, the university.

Building a homeland-security campus and bringing the university to heel is a seven-step mission:

1. Target dissidents: As the warfare state has triggered dissent, the campus has increasingly become a target gallery — with student protesters in the crosshairs.

Big Pharma Faces Grim Prognosis

Over the next few years, the pharmaceutical business will hit a wall.

Some of the top-selling drugs in industry history will become history as patent protections expire, allowing generics to rush in at much-lower prices. Generic competition is expected to wipe $67 billion from top companies' annual U.S. sales between 2007 and 2012 as more than three dozen drugs lose patent protection. That is roughly half of the companies' combined 2007 U.S. sales.

EU opens antitrust probe with raid on drug makers

European Union investigators raided drug companies in several countries as the bloc's powerful antitrust regulator set its sights on possible anticompetitive behavior in the pharmaceutical industry.

Neelie Kroes, the EU's antitrust chief, said she was starting a so-called sector inquiry that would examine whether drug companies are blocking competitors from selling cheaper generic copies, as well as rival new medicines, to safeguard the profits from their own branded drugs.

Mrs. Kroes also said she was concerned that pharmaceutical companies may be colluding to cut deals that temporarily sideline generics in return for payoffs.

AstraZeneca PLC, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Sanofi-Aventis SA, Novartis AG's Sandoz generics unit, Merck & Co., Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer Inc. said they were among the companies contacted.
