| Derby spoils settled in a familiar way
Eight minutes in, Ma-Kalambay had to contort his body in mid-air to extend fully his arm and brilliantly claw away a deflected effort from Palazuelos. Several other raking drives did not find their mark, but Hearts clearly thought there was merit in testing the erratic Belgian under-21 international keeper. Their convictions were justified with the telling strike. In an effort to retrieve a desperate situation, at half-time Paatelainen withdrew the ineffectual Abdessalam Benjelloun in favour of Steven Fletcher, returning to action for the first time since sustaining an ankle injury two months ago. It was the introduction of new signing John Rankin for Merouane Zemmama midway through the period, however, that almost proved pivotal. The £110,000 buy from Inverness Caledonian Thistle offered good delivery from set-pieces.
Farmer unions lift dharna
The union government must take concrete steps to hold accountable members of security forces who killed, or were responsible for the disappearance of youth besides having allegedly tortured Sikh youth during counter-insurgency operations in Punjab, demands a new report released by a human rights watch, Ensaaf and human rights lawyer R.S. Bains. The government should establish a commission of inquiry, a special prosecutors office, and an extensive reparations programme. The 125-page report, Protecting the killers: a policy of impunity in Punjab, India, examines the challenges faced by victims and their relatives in pursuing legal avenues for accountability for the human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated during the governments counter-insurgency campaign. The report describes the immunity enjoyed by officials responsible for these alleged violations and the total failure of Indias judicial and state institutions to provide justice for victims families.
A healthy jump on trans-fat ban
Chunks of potato hit the 300-degree fat with a moderate sizzle. While hardly qualifying as health food, the fries have one less strike less against them: They contain no artery-clogging artificial trans fats. The Grille Zone, a Commonwealth Avenue eatery where the fries were cooked, is one of several Brookline restaurants that already have no artificial trans fats in the oils, marinades, and spreads served to its customers. "I could see the transformation coming," said owner Ben Prentice, who opened his restaurant in June. Brookline health inspectors, who in the fall will begin enforcing a townwide ban on trans fats in restaurants, have been talking with owners in recent weeks about how to comply with the new regulation. But as they make their rounds, inspectors have been surprised to find that a lot of their job has already been done.

Teen Q&A: College admission, scholarships important to seniors this ...
I remember being very frustrated that we were paying the tuition but only my son could ask the questions. It is a good time to help her learn to advocate for herself. Prepare for the phone calls by talking through what she needs to know and always ask for the same person in the admissions office. If you haven't already created a system for managing all the information and material from the colleges, start a notebook and keep dated pages with the information you gather. Working together will help you feel confident that she is ready to take care of things when she leaves home. One of the big challenges of college is to know how to find answers on campus. Helping her to understand this now will save lots of frustration later on. Enjoy the process as you help prepare her for this next big step in both your lives.Q: My husband and I have never been to college.
Official to quit if Roberts returns
Read the latest stories about the ORU lawsuit, examine the lawsuit and other documents, and watch slide shows and video. Vote in a poll: Should Richard Roberts return as the president of ORU? Oral Roberts University's executive vice president of academic affairs and provost offered his resignation to the board of regents on Thursday if the board decides to keep Richard Roberts as president. Mark Lewandowski wrote regents Chairman George Pearsons that he "would be pleased to continue to serve" in his job if Roberts resigns or is not reinstated, according to his letter first obtained by The Associated Press. Roberts has been on a leave of absence as ORU president since Oct. 17 while the board and independent auditors investigate allegations made in a lawsuit that he and his family misused ORU and Oral Roberts Ministries money and resources.
