| Why trust City Hall?
On Dec. 17, 2007, in her latest report to Andersen, monitor Noelle Brennan charged that Daley's administration actually had slipped backward in efforts to eradicate patronage: High-ranking Daley aides skirted the rules to give jobs to favored candidates; officials circumvented rules by sticking preferred job-seekers on payrolls of outside contractors; many city employees who violated hiring rules weren't punished. Brennan's most explosive accusation was that city lawyers repeatedly gave her false or misleading information about city hiring problems. So we were stunned by Andersen's ruling that he'll let a City Hall office oversee . . . City Hall's corruption-plagued hiring system. Andersen rejected Brennan's strong urging that the oversight job go to city Inspector General David Hoffman.
UK 2017: under surveillance
That means he can't apply for a government job or claim benefits or student loans. He can't travel by plane or even train. To make matters worse, Aaron is a young black man - meaning he is deemed a "high category suspect" and is routinely stopped and brought in to the nearest police station for questioning. Once Ben is released, police monitoring systems piggy-back on his hand-held device to track him as he travels across the city. He's also been put on a communications watchlist which means all his internet and e-mail traffic is saved by his ISP and passed to police. As most phone calls are online now, police also get access to these communications as well. Call centre drones Call centres monitor everything that staff do and surveillance information is used to recruit staff.
Christmas spirit in the Northern Territory
Some people had come in from a long way. One old lady from Beswick said: 'Oh, hurry up. I've got to get my voucher so I can go back and the water might be up over the bridge. I might not be able to get in, if I go back too late.' There were over 500 or 600 people at Centrelink. They were from Barunga, Beswick, Eva Valley, Walpiri Camp, Gorge Camp, Binjari, Long Grass, some from Hudson's Downs, some from Roper. Some were inside, and some were waiting outside. There was a big, long waiting line. Everyone was complaining about the time. There were only six or seven workers. I counted them. A lot of people only got a store voucher for a little bit of money, like me. I think maybe some of them didn't get anything. That Centrelink was running out of store cards.

Oppose ACLU’s evil pursuits
It was interesting to read the responses to Mont Poulsen's passionate opinion several weeks ago concerning homosexuals. Mr. Poulsen finds it appalling that USU hired at taxpayer expense someone to "keep homosexuals and transsexuals safe." Since this was in quotes I assume that was what was said in the report. Jami Beth claims it is not a security organization but a guidance and support program. Be that what it may, the government, either state or federal, has no business sponsoring a program like this. Mont asks some simple questions which probably most parents in Cache Valley would ask. The responses in the opinion column are about what I had expected from the liberal contingent in the area. Some think that all of the homosexual community just live their life privately and there is no effort to recruit.
Our view: In Lafayette, 'camera cops' click it, ticket
Louisiana has had some chilly winter weather, but this weekend the temperature should be back in the low 70s. It'll be good weather to check out the Market at the Greens at the former Rapides Golf and Country Club on La. Highway 1, north of Alexandria. Aspiring thespians might want to limber up to try out for a production of "Steel Magnolias." City Park Players will hold auditions Monday and Tuesday. For details on weekend activities, see the calendar in the a.m. section and online at www.thetowntalk.com. Elsewhere in the news, the city of Lafayette is using cameras to catch speeders and red-light runners, and a South Louisiana business has sued a parish because it wants to predict the future. .
