Democrats accuse Rell of 'pandering' on crime bill
She was asked why Republican lawmakers had praised the legislation, which passed unanimously in the Senate Tuesday night and overwhelmingly in the House early Wednesday, then appeared on radio talk shows later in the week criticizing the bill. "You can argue whether someone is soft on crime," Rell said. "I listened to the discussion, the debate the other night, and if you take those who argued against the three strikes bill at their word, they believe that the persistent offender legislation that was strengthened does exactly what a three strikes bill would do.
