Claus outfits. Firefighters and politicians braved the cold to march. It's one of the smaller parades in the area, but full of heart, organizer Sgt. Fred Soucy said last week. "I like the dancing," David Little, 7, of Lawrence said, as he tried to copy the moves of the North Andover Dance School troupe. "I like the Grinch." The dance school dressed as Whos from the holiday animated favorite "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," as a Grinch greeted children along the parade route. Then came the antique cars, beeping and revving their engines. But it wasn't until people could start to hear the fire engine's siren that they really went wild, whipping out their camcorders and cameras from their bags. "It's Santa, Mommy.

Real estate agents 'preying on battlers'
Federal and New South Wales politicians are calling for an inquiry into online real estate agents who offer quick house sales to people who can no longer pay their mortgages. It is feared the agents are exploiting people who are under pressure to sell their houses below market value due to falling prices and high interest rates. Western Sydney MPs have written to federal Consumer Affairs Minister Chris Bowen, asking him to investigate some agents, which promise to sell houses in just days without the usual fees. One organisation advertises for houses where owners are behind in repayments and face repossession. The Real Estate Institute of Australia says homeowners should avoid dealing with the companies because they are not licensed agents.
Rice Lauds Iraqi Reconciliation Efforts
Iraqi officials said Rice warned Iraqi leaders they should not pass up a "golden opportunity" during Bush's last year in office to intensify their efforts for national reconciliation. Speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to share the information with the media, they said Rice also told them that the formation of a "national unity" government should be a top priority for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Al-Maliki's government, dominated by Shiite Muslims, has promoted a Shiite agenda and has been slow to include Sunnis in the police and other national groups as they have formed groups to fight al-Qaida in Iraq. Meanwhile, in an interview published Tuesday by The New York Times, Iraq's defense minister said the country would not be able to assume full responsibility for internal security until 2012 and be unable to defend its borders until at least 2018.

Holiday is over for Rudy Giuliani as he battles to stay afloat in ...
He continued to hold formidable poll leads in Florida and in the biggest Super Tuesday prizes of California and his home state of New York. He defied political gravity by maintaining a lead in the Republican national polls, a remarkable achievement for a thrice-married, proabortion, pro-gun control defender of gay rights. His record in cutting crime rates in New York drastically, his impressive performance after the September 11 terror attacks, his ultra-hawkish foreign policy approach — and his argument that he was the most electable Republican — helped to appease many conservatives. Then the political world descended on Iowa and New Hampshire and Mr Giuliani sank from view quicker than an Everglades alligator. He also underestimated just how severely the early state voters would punish him for the heresy of ignoring them.
